Expand Your Business Without Investment

September 6, 2010

There are many times that, as a small business, you would like to be able to offer your customers products or services than it is outside of your capabilities to supply. You may think that your customers may benefit from a particular service you do not have the staff to provide, or software that you cannot afford to develop. This can prove frustrating for you, and means that your customers may migrate to a company that can meet all of their needs in one place.

The best way for small businesses to grow is to use a system called “bootstrapping” where there is low financial risk attached to business growth, as only a small amount of money is used to fund the business, the majority of business spending coming from money generated by the company. For a bootstrapping, or fledging business, growing your business via investment seems counterintuitive if not impossible. But, at the same time, you realise that you would do well by providing more products or services to your clients.

This juxtaposition is one that many small businesses face, but there is a solution that enables small business to grow, increase customer retention and expand their brand without the need for excessive external investment.

Partner schemes, or reseller programs, often allow business to join up and offer their varying services to the others’ clients. For example, if company X sells cheese and company Y sells bread, partnering seems ideal as together they can offer their customers all they need to create a sandwich. The same is true of many other businesses. If you sell computers, and a fellow business sells software but not computers, a referral program could help both companies to increase their customer base and improve customer retention rates.

When considering joining a referral program it pays to do your homework; is the company reputable? Do you like the product and think that your customers would too? A good referral program with help your sales and your customer retention, allowing you to offer your customers over and above what they expect; while at the same time allowing your business to make a residual income.

Mums in Business Join the WinWeb Partner Network

July 5, 2010

I’m delighted to announce that Mums in Business have joined the WinWeb Partner Network. Mums in Business is a fantastic network lined to Connection Events, to help parents succeed in business. I spoke to Zoe, one of the founders of Mums in Business, about her passion for business and the creation of Connection Events and Mums in Business.

“As a mum in business myself running my own successful wholesale and retail distribution company Opal Products www.opalproducts.co.uk I found it very challenging with two young children to be able to network and link up with other people in business. I found that the choice of events and networks for this was very limited and often difficult to access due to event times. I wanted something that had a professional edge to it and would help me to build my business and didn’t involve attending early morning or late evening meetings. The idea of planning and organising a series of events for mums in business was born!

At Connection Events we hold and manage child friendly networking groups for Mums in Business. We are an energetic events business which strives to provide excellent opportunities to mums who are in business whilst engaging with their children creating a ‘community’ spirit in what we do.

We are passionate in what we do and believe that in today’s market providing support to other businesses and to those around us are key to making a success. We build networks that support and link to each other to generate business and our vision is to create a network that supports Leicestershire based mums, businesses and children. We are really excited about having such a great business on board, and look forward to working with the group in the future.
